I'm hopped up on cold medicine today and all I can get out are three random sentences. I stared at the screen for a solid 10 minutes trying to piece them together but to no avail. So here you go. Three very random sentences:
It's rainy and cold here today.
I wore a similar outfit back in the spring and wanted to bring it back, winter-edition.
Someone asked the other day if I always wear heels. Yes, yes I do. I've just never been into flats. It's not that I don't enjoy the feeling of not screwing up my knees forever or the lack of foot pain, but I just prefer the way heels look on an outfit. I'm such a martyr for my own vanity. However somedays in retail, as much as I fight it, are not heel days. Today is one of those days. So if I'm ever wearing flats, you know I mean business.
Oh and the castle behind me? That would be my house.
I have been on the lookout for an obnoixously yellow sweater. And you know what? Obnoxious yellow is kind of hard to find. Especially when you ask a sales girl -- "what's the most obnoixous sweater you have?" They don't take that very well.
And then, just as I was about to give up, I found it. A perfectly lemon colored sweater. When life gives you lemons...make an outfit. That's how the saying goes; I'm 84% sure that's right.
I feel like my hair is growing way too fast. The past few years I was growing it out from a bad chop job, so it felt like it took forever to grow. Now I feel like it grows more and more every day. Probably because it is. (See? 8th grade biology class did mean something to me.) The only reason I am noticing this is because I'm now paying for haircuts whereas before I was not even getting hair cuts. Simple economics really. Plus I'm a tight wad when it comes to the salon. I'd just rather buy a shirt than get a haircut. I'd rather buy clothes than do a lot of things, now that I think about it...
*PS: Check in stores for this top, I got mine on mega sale + 30% off. Also, since you are here my pearl bracelet is from Forever21 forever ago and the chunky bracelet is from Bloom.
On the day that I decided to straighten my new hair, it mists and fogs. But the good news is it made for some pretty/creepy photos. Pretty and creepy is my speciality after all, so I'm pretty pleased. Even if my hair frizzed up five minutes after this photo.
Usually I'm better at posting early on Monday mornings but this weekend was bananas. We shot a wedding in New Orleans on Saturday and then ended up back at the shop yesterday, needless to say outfit photos did not happen. I need to throw this out there: how do celebrities always look so put together while traveling? I look o.k. going onto a plane and then by the end of a 70-minute flight I look a hot mess. I'm sweaty, my hair is disheveled, I have stains on my shirt, I've lost a shoe. Okay so maybe every morning is a foggy morning for me.
I hate to admit this but mustard pants are kind of hard to style. I thought "no biggie" when I bought them because I've previously owned a mustard colored skirt which was a cinch to style. But pants -- pants are completely different than skirts. (Yes, feel free to quote me on that.) So I just decided to go the easy route and pair it with a blouse that had a similar color. And by easy I mean I thought about this outfit for a good 30 minutes before leaving the house.
Also, this outfit reminds me of Arrested Development. Why you say? Because there is always money in the banana stand. And I kind of feel like a banana.
(*This top was bought with a gift card provided by LOFT, just so you know.)
Do you ever have those days that you feel like you waste a great outfit? Today was one of those days. Not that it was a bad day, it just that I think I saw a total of 20 human beings today (five dogs, but they don't count mainly because dogs are color blind). Thank goodness for you guys. Or else I'd still be out trying to find more people to see my outfit. And let me tell you, starting a conversation with 'don't you love my outfit?' shuts down the conversation pretty quickly. Which is why I don't go out alone. Social skills were never my forte.
You may notice that my hair grew over night. But really this is an outfit from before we left our little town, obviously before the new big city hair. Glad I had it on hand as today I'm in t-shirt and shorts that I may or may not have slept in, not quite blog worthy.
Am I alone in this or did you used to pine over new loafers for school? Just me, eh? I loved a new pair of loafers. There was just something about going into third grade that made me want to be an 80 year old man. While these are a much hipper version, I'm getting a little nostalic for my annual pair of loafers. Except it's 15 years later and I'm not pairing them with colored tube socks. Yet.
It's usually a bit overwhelming to go back to my whole closet after I've limited myself to 30 pieces. The first thing I did was hug my shoes. I held each and every pair for 10 minutes and told them how much I missed them. No favorites here, I'm a good mother like that. All shoes are equal in this family.
Like a kid in a candy store, I went straight for one of my favorite dresses and a top I've had for a while, but haven't worn on the blog. Although I pinned up one of the layers, it normally doesn't quite cover my stomach, which I typically prefer in shirts. But I slipped it over this dress and it worked perfectly. I feel very Chuck from Pushing Daisies. I'm pretty sure that's her name -- I'll be honest, I only watched that show for the outfits. Other shows I only watch just for the outfits? Judge Judy and Swamp People.
This outfit seemed like a no brainer. Bright top + white jeans = summer outfit explosion. But then I got to my belt and shoes. I couldn't decide if the yellow was okay with the red shoes. So I considered asking a second source, my husband; he didn't even look up and said "you look great!" At that point, I knew I was alone in this choice. As you can see, I went with it but I felt a bit like Ronald McDonald, so please no fast-food clown jokes today. Okay, one clown joke is allowed. Maybe two -- if they are funny, I'll allow two.
If you are wondering how I did my hair, it's easy. You tease the cuss out of it around the crown of your head, making sure that most of your hair is breaking off in the process. (But you don't care, going prematurely bald is worth one marginally good hair day.) Then after you tease it, the rest of your hair will be sad and flat so you just put a headband on top of it and push it back to make more volume. Then pull the rest back in a pony. I told you, easy. But I did not say without sacrifice. If you do this hair-do more than once a week, you will definitely need a wig piece in just a few years.
And on that weird note, hope your weekend is a good one.
Sometimes when I dress in bright colors I actually forget that I'm wearing bright, attention-grabbing colors. Take today for instance, as I was walking up to the post office some girl in the reflection of the glass caught my eye. I thought "well that's some serious yellow going on." So I did a double take in the glass. Turns out, I was the girl. I'm not sure if that's a good sign when you start talking crap behind your own back...to yourself.
This is also probably a sign I need more friends. That don't hang out at the post office.
If I had to live in one era it would probably be the 1970s. Or the 1920s, but I had to pick one and the other goes best with my post today, so 70s it is. There is something about these wide leg jeans that make me feel carefree and bohemian. Although I'll never give up skinny jeans (and I mean never: I will wear them till I die even if I am the only 90 year old wearing them. I'll be a hot 90 year old.) they are a nice break from the norm.
Speaking of a break from the norm, we are off on a road trip to visit the in-laws. And lucky for B, I just downloaded all of my favorite songs from high school. At least one of us will be having a good time.
Remember the last time I wore this and I said that I didn't know why it wasn't as tight as before? I know why now. It's because I didn't zip it up all the way. Trust me, it's still tight. I'm gasping for air as I type this. I do this all for you guys. The high heels, the tight skirts, the hours I sacrifice on the internet watching youtube videos instead of playing with my dog or feeding my husband -- it's all for you.
I like to give credit where credit is due, so this outfit brought to you by the 1980s, my local thrift store and Olivia Palermo. Although forgive me as my necklace isn't quite as fancy as hers. I hate when I have to pay rent over buying jewels. Priorities are the worst.
