Third Grade

Let's be honest -- I would have gladly worn this outfit in third grade. Of course I would have most likely won best dressed for third grade; I judge this mainly on the basis that most 8 year olds don't wear heels and I don't have lunch crusted on my face. Now that I think about it, I'd pretty much face off with a third grader any day of the week on any topic besides Geography (simply because I realized where Hawaii was just this year and I don't own map pencils). But even as a 27 year old, it feels good to be wearing hot pink pants with a polka dot sweater AND to know where Hawaii is on a map. 
Elementary my friends, elementary.

Neapolitan

Last time I wore a handmade cowl, I had many comments that accoladed me on my fine ability to knit. No, friends. I can not knit. In all honesty I have trouble tying lace up shoes, so knitting doesn't happen in the Everyday household. I just have family members and talented friends that I force at gun point to make me things for free. Isn't that so sweet of them? 
My shoes are in fact from Target. Cute, but not sturdy. Don't be fooled I am walking with purpose today but only because I have to concentrate on every step I take. I can see strangers taking wagers on how long before I fall or break an ankle. (Breaking an ankle would obviously be a higher wager.) Cute but not sturdy; that should be my tag line.

I thought that I'd start this year off right with some bright pants and an old stand-by. Meet my new "just in case you didn't know I was in the room" pink pants. Somehow Instagram talked me into buying these pants. I'm not saying using public opinions and filtered photos to purchase things is the best idea, but it's not the worst. I mean look at me, I have hot pink pants now.
I've blogged a few times before about my love for this shirt, so I'll leave it at that. But have I mentioned I love this shirt?

This is my last outfit post of the year. When I first wrote that sentence I forgot 'of the year'. That would have been a dramatic way to send that message, no? I've never been good with goodbyes, but that would have been the worst goodbye in history.
I hope high water pants come into trend next year. Even if they don't, I'll probably still sport my short pants with pride. I would just like to point out that yes, one leg is longer than the other. Don't be jealous of my short pants and uneven legs. We've all got to have something to brag about. 
Thanks for sticking with me this year, friends. Here's to 2012, the year of short pants.

I snagged this coat at Anthropologie over Thanksgiving weekend for an insane price of $60. I promised Bryan that I would wrap it for Christmas but somehow in all of my wrapping, it just didn't get wrapped. I hate when that happens. 
Technically this is my Christmas Eve outfit. (I may or may not plan holiday outfits many days in advance .) I decided to give it a trial run today. So far, so good. I might also give some eggnog a trial run as well. Just for good measure.

I tried to get all Alexa Chung on my hair today -- you know, flawless but carefree? Well let me tell you something. Flawless and carefree takes longer than average and uptight. I ended up actually stripping down to my underwear this morning after getting dressed because I was so angry at my hair. Granted, this is not a normal reaction to a bad hair day, but it happened. I considered re-showering and doing my hair like normal because effortless was not working for me. Who knew natural took so much effort? Also, who knew I took to streaking when I got angry?
Last time I wore this skirt was about forever ago. About time I broke it out again, yes?

Three Color Rule

When I was a little girl, I basically was given hand me downs every year. Which was fine by me because I'd see my sister wear something and I couldn't wait to get my little hands on it. As I was in Target yesterday I saw a mom hold up a graphic tee to her 2 year old and ask her if she'd wear that with her jeggings. The 2 year old obviously didn't care but I thought it was cute so I relayed this story to my mother in disbelief that a mom would consult her 24 month old on what she would wear. 
"Well I had to give you the 3-color rule when you wear that age.""What? You gave me rules? I didn't need rules." "You would put all of these crazy colors together and I'd say 'baby, pick your three favorite colors and just wear those.' And it would work every time."
So I used that rule today. I picked my favorite three colors and went with it. I don't know if this is on Nina Garcia's style rules, but it worked for me. Thanks, mom.

Sadly this year I did not wake up at 3:00 am to join in on the black Friday craziness. For no other reason other than I have to be at the shop instead of shopping. But I do love black Friday. Which in fact makes me crazy, too. Any other day of the year I'd avoid shopping with that many people, but not black Friday. Shopping in a state of delirium mixed with exhilaration while buying things that I didn't even want with hundreds of other people? Sign me up.

Especially when you ask a sales girl -- "what's the most obnoixous sweater you have?" They don't take that very well.  And then, just as I was about to give up, I found it. A perfectly lemon colored sweater. When life gives you lemons...make an outfit. That's how the saying goes; I'm 84% sure that's right.

Blue Suede

{Shop: Similar Blouse, Wedges, Fossil Watch, Scarf} I don't know if it's the thrill of finding a really great piece that I didn't know I wanted or just the art of shopping, but there is something very zen about thrifting. I hadn't been thrifting since I left Kerrville. (A crying shame, right?) Jentine of My Edit has this thing called 'This Week I Thrifted...' and while I was reading I remembered that I have yet to go thrifting in my new town. While I'm no Jentine when it comes to thrifting, I can ususally find a thirft store gem every once in a while. And by gem I mean this blue suede skirt I'm wearing.  Exactly what I wasn't looking for. New favorite skirt, meet my closet. You'll fit in just fine. (I'm by no means a thrift expert, so if you'd like to see a pro check out My Edit. She will school you.)

Foggy

On the day that I decided to straighten my new hair, it mists and fogs. But the good news is it made for some pretty/creepy photos. Pretty and creepy is my speciality after all, so I'm pretty pleased. Even if my hair frizzed up five minutes after this photo.
Usually I'm better at posting early on Monday mornings but this weekend was bananas. We shot a wedding in New Orleans on Saturday and then ended up back at the shop yesterday, needless to say outfit photos did not happen. I need to throw this out there: how do celebrities always look so put together while traveling? I look o.k. going onto a plane and then by the end of a 70-minute flight I look a hot mess.  I'm sweaty, my hair is disheveled, I have stains on my shirt, I've lost a shoe. Okay so maybe every morning is a foggy morning for me.

{Shop: Similar Top, Skinny Jeans), MK Flats, Tote, Glasses (c/o Bonlook)} The only time I've stolen something intentionally was when I was 6 years old. It was a 99 cent book of stickers and I of course got caught. Only because I wasn't sly yet, that came later in life, about third grade to be exact. (As did my swagger.) Anyways, I'm still not much of a thief unless it comes to outfits and then I have no mercy. Yesterday a girl breezed through the store and sans the scarf, this is her exact outfit. This might be the easiest outfit I've never thought up. Like stealing candy from a baby, which I did yesterday as well. It's just so easy.

Autumn Calling

I'm a little behind this week. This outfit is actually from Monday. So by a little behind, I mean three days behind. Forgive me? You didn't miss much Tuesday or Wednesday as I pretty much wore the same uniform I've been wearing all week -- a v-neck, jeans and greasy hair. HOT. My greasy hair brings all the boys to the yard, trust me. Of course they are carrying shampoo, but still.  PS -- Thank you for sticking with me through the sporadic postings these last few weeks.
