Third Grade

Let's be honest -- I would have gladly worn this outfit in third grade. Of course I would have most likely won best dressed for third grade; I judge this mainly on the basis that most 8 year olds don't wear heels and I don't have lunch crusted on my face. Now that I think about it, I'd pretty much face off with a third grader any day of the week on any topic besides Geography (simply because I realized where Hawaii was just this year and I don't own map pencils). But even as a 27 year old, it feels good to be wearing hot pink pants with a polka dot sweater AND to know where Hawaii is on a map. 
Elementary my friends, elementary.

(Really) Wide Leg

Three things about silk pants: 1) constant wrinkles 2) the wind hates silk and 3) constantly worried about stains. I have banned myself from eating anything greasy today along with anything that involves ketchup or wine or blood. (Blood is such a pain to get out of silk.) It's that or eat with my pants off, which I typically wait until 5 pm to do that. 


I found these pants at Anthro for $20 (down from $198. It's almost like they paid me to take them off their hands) and I bought them on a whim. The very next day I saw this image on Pinterest and was so glad I took a risk on my wide leg maxi silky sultan pants. I really don't know what to call these things.


(Excuse the weird pouts. Apparently when it's cold I make 'sexy come hither/I just ate a lemon' face.)

Warm Winter

Those are bare legs you are seeing, my friends. Bare legs on January 6th. My logic tells me this is a fluke. This time next month we'll probably be snowed-in and I'll be cursing the weather. But today it feels like spring and I want to buy everyone a drink with an umbrella in it. 
If you see a weird girl frolicking through the dead grass today yelling 'spring is here!', that will be me.

This is my last outfit post of the year. When I first wrote that sentence I forgot 'of the year'. That would have been a dramatic way to send that message, no? I've never been good with goodbyes, but that would have been the worst goodbye in history.
I hope high water pants come into trend next year. Even if they don't, I'll probably still sport my short pants with pride. I would just like to point out that yes, one leg is longer than the other. Don't be jealous of my short pants and uneven legs. We've all got to have something to brag about. 
Thanks for sticking with me this year, friends. Here's to 2012, the year of short pants.

Wearing the Pants

Lately, I can't get enough of pants. Which is weird because if you look through my archives, you can see my slight obsession with skirts and dresses over the last two years. You see, after I hit the corporate world right after college, I didn't know a) how to dress my body and b) what to wear to the offic. One time someone told me I looked good in pants, so I stuck with it. So the sick cycle began: Corporate wear = pants from the Limited with generic top, then add cardigan. When I started styling blogging, wearing a skirt was pure freedom. I felt like a rebel every time I showed up in a cute skirt. And colored tights was the quiet equivalent of me re-enacting the 'Freedom' scene from Braveheart in the middle of the office. So it's a little surprising to me that my return to pants was so sudden, but I just can't enough. See you again in two years, skirts. (I kid. I don't like pants that much.)

PS -- Yes, my glasses are from BonLook! The style isn't available anymore but these are similar.

I think my mother likes me better on the internet than in person. Case in point: I saw her yesterday in this outfit. She asked "why have you not posted this yet? I miss your outfits." I was standing in front of her, and I would have blogger posed for her had she asked. But yet she wanted a post. So mom, this post is for you.
I've grown quite fond of plaid shirts lately. But sometimes I feel like a guy when I wear plaid. So what do I do? I put a tweed blazer over my plaid shirt, naturally. Nothing says feminine like a heavy tweed blazer.

Work Wear

{Similar Shirt, Similar Belt, Flats, Clutch, Scarf, Necklace} Someone asked the other day if I always wear heels. Yes, yes I do. I've just never been into flats. It's not that I don't enjoy the feeling of not screwing up my knees forever or the lack of foot pain, but I just prefer the way heels look on an outfit. I'm such a martyr for my own vanity. However somedays in retail, as much as I fight it, are not heel days. Today is one of those days. So if I'm ever wearing flats, you know I mean business.  Oh and the castle behind me? That would be my house.

The past few years I was growing it out from a bad chop job, so it felt like it took forever to grow. Now I feel like it grows more and more every day. Probably because it is. (See? 8th grade biology class did mean something to me.) The only reason I am noticing this is because I'm now paying for haircuts whereas before I was not even getting hair cuts. Simple economics really. Plus I'm a tight wad when it comes to the salon. I'd just rather buy a shirt than get a haircut. I'd rather buy clothes than do a lot of things, now that I think about it...  *PS: Check in stores for this top, I got mine on mega sale + 30% off. Also, since you are here my pearl bracelet is from Forever21 forever ago and the chunky bracelet is from Bloom.

And just like that it was fall. I believe it got down in the 30's last night my friends. See what a little whining can do? It gets you want you want. That's always been my m.o.  Oh and yes, I cut my hair. Again. This is what I wasn't brave enough to do the first time around. I somehow found bravery on Wednesday and just said 'chop it' to the hair lady. This is going to sound weird, but I wish you guys could feel my hair. It's really soft, like rabbit's foot soft. If we ever meet, feel free to touch my hair. I'll completely understand.

I had the best of intentions this week to blog an outfit everyday. And then this week happened. Do you ever have a string of days where nothing looks right on? Every morning I wake up with a great outfit in mind and then it looks like a third grader dressed me. (No offense to the 8 years olds out there. Keep shining, kiddos.) There is currently a 2 foot pile of clothing in my closet waiting to be hung back up and apolgized to for all of the curse words I've said to them this week. Somedays you win, other days you wear repeated outfits that worked last week. I wore this actually on Tuesday but now it's Thursday. Also, how is it already Thursday?? Why is this year flying by? It's still 2011, right?

Rainy Day

I found my sweater this summer at J.Crew for $20. The obviously didn't sell in Texas this summer because they resembled well... a sweater. There are only a few things that don't sell well in Texas in the summer: hot cocoa and sweaters. Lucky for me, I like both. I was wise enough to look past the 100 degree weather and I snagged this gem up in a heartbeat. Yesterday was rainy and cool and I was finally able to bust out my first sweater of the fall. Does this mean boots are next? Dare to dream, right? Dare to dream.

You can see why I was not invited to the Royal Wedding, no?

This is the little shirt that could. It's probably one of my favorite shirts I own. Which basically means if there was a fire, I'd grab my husband, dog... and then this top. Family first, then clothes. Unless they all got out before me, then clothes first. Also, how did they get out before me? That seems so wrong. 
I just want you guys to know that I'm writing this at 6 am. Not my best time, possibly my weirdest time now that I think about it. I just couldn't sleep so I thought I'd write a post. And I'm in that weird state of awake but still kind of asleep. You know when you are dreaming in a delirious/half awake state and you come up with what you think at the time is the best ideas ever? You tell yourself to remember that for when you really wake up. And then when you think back on them you are like "what? why would I want a refrigerator in my car?!" I'm pretty sure this is how I'll look back on this post.
